Huckleberry

Edible Parts Huckleberry leaf is used by naturopathic physicians treat sugar diabetes and ailments of the kidneys and gallbladder. Huckleberry is in the same plant family as bilberry and blueberry, but is a closer cousin to Uva Ursi. Some say Huckleberry is the same as blueberry; however, they are different and one way to know for sure is to look at the seeds. Huckleberries have 10 large, bony seeds, and blueberries have a number of tiny soft seeds.

Medicinal use - used to treat mild sugar diabetes and kidney and gallbladder infection.

Contra-indications - Huckleberry is generally regarded as safe when taken in the recommended doses. There are no known safety issues or iteractions associated with Huckleberry. Safety in young children, or those with severe liver or kidney disease has not yet been established.
